THE OTOPLASTY PROCEDURE

Consultation: During your initial consultation, our experts will discuss your goals, assess your ears, and recommend the best approach tailored to your needs.
Surgery: The procedure typically involves making small incisions behind the ears to access the cartilage, which is then reshaped or repositioned as needed. The incisions are carefully closed to minimize scarring.

RESULTS & RECOVERY

After your otoplasty, a bandage will be placed around your head to protect the ears and support the new shape. You may experience some discomfort, swelling, and bruising, which are normal and will subside over time. Pain can be managed with prescribed medication, and you’ll be provided with detailed aftercare instructions to ensure a smooth recovery.

Most patients can return to work or school within a week. The bandages will be replaced with a lighter headband that should be worn for several weeks, especially at night. After 2-3 weeks, swelling and bruising should significantly diminish, and you’ll begin to see the final results. After 6 weeks, you can resume all normal activities, including exercise.

The results of your otoplasty will continue to improve as any remaining swelling subsides.

This is a 26 year-old woman who was concerned about the prominence of her ears. She had been self-conscious her whole life about them, but with her wedding only a few months away, she wanted explore her options. She saw Dr. Marc Polacco who performed an otoplasty or ear pinning procedure. Using an incision hidden behind the ear, Dr. Polacco pinned back her ear with sutures, creating an antihelical fold that is normally present, but often absent or inadequately formed in individuals with prominent ears.
