THE RHINOPLASTY PROCEDURE 

Rhinoplasty is a transformative procedure that can make subtle or significant changes to the shape, size, and structure of your nose. Our goal is to create a natural-looking result that complements your facial features.

• Consultation: Your rhinoplasty journey begins with a thorough consultation where our specialists will discuss your goals, evaluate your nose, and design a treatment plan tailored to your unique needs.
• Surgery: Rhinoplasty can be performed using either an open or closed technique. In an open rhinoplasty, a small incision is made at the base of the nose between the nostrils, providing the surgeon with greater access to the nasal structure. In a closed rhinoplasty, all incisions are made inside the nostrils, resulting in no visible scarring.

During your consultation, our board-certified surgeons will work with you to create a customized treatment plan to meet your goals. Our surgeons offer a spectrum of rhinoplasty techniques to address the different goals and different facial configurations.

OPEN RHINOPLASTY

Ideal for more complex cases where significant reshaping of the nose is required. An incision is made across the columella (the tissue between the nostrils), allowing the surgeon to lift the skin and have full access to the nasal structure. This approach provides greater visibility and precision but may leave a small, barely visible scar.

CLOSED RHINOPLASTY

Suitable for less complex procedures that focus on refining the shape of the nose without major structural changes. All incisions are made inside the nostrils, leaving no visible scars. This method is less invasive, with a quicker recovery time, but it offers limited access to the nasal structure.

REVISION RHINOPLASTY

Also known as secondary rhinoplasty, this procedure corrects or improves the results of a previous rhinoplasty. Revision rhinoplasty can be either open or closed, depending on the extent of the corrections needed. It’s typically more complex due to the presence of scar tissue and altered anatomy from the initial surgery.

FUNCTIONAL RHINOPLASTY

Focuses on improving the function of the nose, particularly to address breathing issues caused by structural problems like a deviated septum, enlarged turbinates, or nasal valve collapse. This procedure may involve straightening the septum, reducing the size of the turbinates, or reinforcing the nasal valves. Functional rhinoplasty can be combined with cosmetic rhinoplasty for both improved function and appearance.

NON-SURGICAL RHINOPLASTY

Provides temporary adjustments to the shape of the nose without surgery, ideal for minor corrections. Dermal fillers are injected to smooth out bumps, refine the tip, or improve symmetry. This procedure is non-invasive, has minimal downtime, and results last about 6-12 months.

RESULTS & RECOVERY

After your rhinoplasty, your nose will be bandaged and may be splinted to protect its new shape. You may experience swelling, bruising, and discomfort, particularly around the eyes and nose, which will gradually subside. You’ll be provided with detailed aftercare instructions, including how to manage pain, reduce swelling, and care for your incisions.

Most patients can return to work or school after one to two weeks, though some swelling and bruising may still be present.

After 3-4 weeks, swelling will continue to decrease, and you can resume more strenuous activities. The majority of the bruising should be gone.

After 3-6 months, most of the swelling will have subsided, and the new shape of your nose will be more apparent.

Final results are usually visible within a year, with the nose fully healed and settled into its new shape.

Rhinoplasty offers long-lasting results, giving you a nose that better suits your facial features and enhances your overall appearance. While the aging process continues, your new nose will remain proportionate and balanced.*

OPEN RHINOPLASTY

This 20 year-old patient presented to Dr. Polacco for a cosmetic rhinoplasty. Having a slender, athletic frame, she felt that her nose was not proportionate. Her main goals were a smaller nose with a “cute tip.” Using an open approach, Dr. Polacco reduced the dorsum, deprojected the nose, and rotated the tip. Post-operative photographs were taken 3 weeks after surgery, and the tip is expected to drop, as well as swelling continue to resolve. Photos presented with patient consent. Results may vary. REVISION RHINOPLASTY

This 34 year-old patient presented to Dr. Polacco for a cosmetic and functional revision rhinoplasty. She had undergone a rhinoplasty about a year prior but developed complications of nasal obstruction, as well as tip ptosis and a saddle nose deformity. Due to the severity of scarring and cartilage weakness present, Dr. Polacco used a small section of the cartilaginous part of one of her ribs to help reconstruct the nose. This achieved not only a better cosmetic appearance, but also greatly enhanced her breathing ability. Post-operative photos were obtained 2 months following surgery. NON-SURGICAL RHINOPLASTY

This 21 year-old patient presented to Dr. Polacco for a non-surgical rhinoplasty. This patient wanted a smoother dorsum and a rotated tip. This patient received one syringe of Restylane Lyft.
